Cosplay Creation! Demon Hunter Day 14 and 15

I'm really feeling like it is coming together.  Is there still a lot to do in the next week?  You bet!  But I think of how much I've completed and learned, and don't feel too daunted by it.  Let's look at what's been done.

The first thing was to spray paint the trim.  I chose a hammer finish metallic paint in dark bronze.  Now, obviously way more than the trim  got hit in the process since I didn't tape.  I figured I would just be painting over it anyway.  Problem was, the slick finish did not want to allow a coat of acrylic paint over it, so I did a quick coating of primer, and waited once more for it to dry.

Once it was ready, I gave it a coat of red.  I've got to say, I felt a little nervous right here.  The bright red against the bronze just wasn't doing it for me.  But since I knew it wasn't done yet, I kept moving forward.

Red paint dry, it was time to start dirtying it up.  I mixed black paint with antiquing medium, brushed it on, and used a paper towel to wipe it down.  One coat, and I was already seeing a big difference, but it wasn't quite there yet.

A second coat really did the trick.  The red was nicely dulled, the crevices had a pretty good build up, and it just looked much more Diablo-ish.  After working in a third coat into certain crevices, I felt like it was good to go.

A little closer shot to show the paint better.  The only thing I think it could use is a coat of a matte effect medium on the red to take some of the shine off, but I'm not worried if I don't get to that.  Plus it isn't so obviously shiny when it isn't right under a light.

Now I've just got to get the rest of my pieces to this point, and I'll be ready to cosplay.  Now that I've got a better mastery of the techniques I think it should go faster.  Trim needs to be added to boot covers and wrists, then prime and paint.  Legs needs to go from paper mache to paint.  Appropriate buckling needs to be added to all of those.  It seems like a lot, but with the varying stages everything is at, I can bounce from project to project while things dry.

Well, I got my work cut out for me, so wish me luck!
